George Dootingh

November 24, 1934 — December 13, 2017

George Van Dootingh, 83, of Norwalk, passed away on December 13, 2017, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born on November 24, 1934, in Detroit, MI to the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Van Dootingh. He was a lifelong resident of Townsend Twp. and was a 1954 graduate of Townsend-Wakeman High School. He was part owner of US 20 Auto Parts and worked there for his entire career. He served on the Western Reserve School Board for 18 years, the Townsend Twp. Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and served as Asst. Chief for six years. George was also a member of the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (FOOLS). He was a member of the Ohio Auto and Truck Wreckers Association and had served as President. George was very active in the Masonic Lodge. He was a 61 year member and Past Master of the East Townsend Masonic Lodge #322, the Wakeman Chapter R.A.M. #177, Deputy Grand Master of the 16th Masonic District for three years, member and Past Patron of the Althea Chapter #438 Order of Eastern Star in Monroeville. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Patsy (Morey) Van Dootingh; his children George (Elaine) Jr., Greg, Gina, Gary, and Brian, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, June Meinen, Elizabeth Elder, Virginia O'Guin, Jackie and John Van Dootingh. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 pm until the time of services at 7:00 pm at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Services will be conducted by the East Townsend Masonic Lodge and the Northern Ohio FOOLS Chapter.
