Ray Otto

Ray Otto, 75, of Berlin Township, passed away on December 26, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 8, 1942, in Sandusky, and has lived in Berlin Township his entire life. He was a 1960 graduate of Berlin Heights High School where he excelled in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He was also active in FFA and 4-H. Following high school, he helped run the family business, J.H. Otto and Sons Greenhouses. Most recently he was a truck driver for Your Favorite Carrier, Lepley Farms, and a foreman at Great Lakes Packers in Bellevue. Ray was active in the community. He served on the Erie County Health Board for 18 years, Erie County Fair Board for six years, served on the Berlin Township Fire Department, Berlin Township Zoning Appeals Board for four years, was a 4-H Leader of the Shinrock Live Wires, and the Erie County 4-H Camp Board. He also served as President of the Ohio Greenhouse Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association for 15 years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Huron and was a past member of the Huron United Methodist Church. Ray was a diehard Cleveland Indians fan. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Juan) Otto-Cantu, of Harlingen, TX, Gregory "Jake" Otto, of Berlin Heights, Dr. Emily (Ed) Otto-Tice, of Story City, IA, Ryan (Jennifer) Otto, of Berlin Heights, Jessika Otto, of Ottawa Lake, MI, Rebecca Otto, of Toledo, Ohio, Jennifer Otto, of Berlin Heights, Ray J. Otto, Jr., of Berlin Heights, six grandchildren, Jacob and Brennan Otto, of Berlin Heights, Morgan and Katherine Otto, of Berlin Heights, Hannah and Mason Tice, of Story City, IA. He is also survived by his first wife Candy Clark, of Harlingen, TX, his second wife Nanette Otto, of Berlin Heights, and siblings Ned Otto, of Huron, and Dianne Woodson, of Spring Valley, CA He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lucille (Green) Otto. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights, where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Peaks Cemetery on Darrow Road.
