Thelma Watson

Thelma M. Watson, 99, of Wakeman, went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born June 22, 1922 in Florence, OH, where she lived most of her life. She raised her family there, taking care of her children and home.

Thelma was a 1941 graduate of Birmingham High School where she was a cheerleader and also where she met the love of her life, Leon. Shortly after meeting, Leon entered the Air Force and was stationed in Texas. In April of 1943 she traveled by train to Wichita Falls, Texas to marry her soldier and they were married for 71 years. During the war, Thelma worked at U.S. Automatic in Amherst and Cleveland Carbon Company. Thelma was an amazing seamstress, cook, baker, and most of all a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest hobby was shopping! She was a devoted Christian and was a member of The Church of the Open Door for over 50 years. She spent the last 4 years of her life residing in Wakeman with Cassandra and Jesse where she enjoyed poolside cookouts, pancakes on Sunday mornings, golf-cart rides, and endless shopping trips.

Thelma is survived by her daughters, Beverly (Thomas) Draudt of Norwalk and Debra Wolfe of Wakeman; her son, Dennis (Betty) Watson of Kipton; grandchildren, Cassandra (Jesse) Case, Tristan Wolfe (Taylor Moretti), Dennis Watson Jr, Lindsey (Jamie) Bachman, Kyle Watson, Michele (Tom) Williams, Donna (Chad) Coon, Melissa (Kevin) Englert, David (Stephanie) Wilson, Daniel (Andrea) Wilson, and Darlene (Scott) Karohl; 26 great-grandchildren; her furry companions, Peter and Harriet; and many caring and loving friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Watson; parents, Alfred and Hazel (Crapo) Sprunk; daughter, Linda Wilson; son-in-law, Stanley Wolfe; brothers, Alfred Jr., Raymond, Arnold, William, and Donald Sprunk; and sister, Juanita.

Private services with be held at the Morman-Hinman Funeral Home in Berlin Heights, and burial will follow at Florence Cemetery.
