Former Oklahoma resident, Willis Joe Duncan, 88, of Elyria passed away of natural causes at Twilight Gardens Nursing Home, Norwalk, Ohio surrounded by his wife and loving children on December 7, 2015. He will be sadly missed by all. At his request, no service will be held. A private family memorial will be held. He was born September 26, 1927 to the late Emma and Jesse D. Duncan in Ringling, Oklahoma. Joe worked many years as a diesel mechanic, and after retiring, spent his remaining years with his family. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. His children fondly called him "The Old Man Of The Sea" because of his famous fish fries where he cooked his catch of the day for his family. Joe had a green thumb for gardening, and also enjoyed playing cards and watching westerns. Lovingly known as "Papa", he was the happiest when with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Papa took great joy in making them smile with stories of his life adventures and teaching them how to fish, hunt and garden. Joe is survived by his wife, Carol Duncan and his children, son, Larry (Julie) Duncan of Norwalk, daughters, Kathy Guess of Eastlake, Joyce (Doug) Moore of Pittsfield, son, Alan (Leigh-Anne) Duncan of Galloway, and daughter, Rhonda Purdy of Wellington, 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Steven Joseph Duncan and John Woodrow Duncan, one grandchild, Tracy Rae, and one great grandchild, Paul Ryan. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Altus, Jack, Douglas, Imogen, Laveta, Lavone and Leatha Mae. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Twilight Gardens Nursing Home where the family wishes to extend their gratitude for the support in his final days.
