Gary L. Swinehart, 81, of Milan, Ohio passed away April 9, 2021. He was born June 25, 1939 in Norwalk, Ohio. He graduated from Townsend-Wakeman High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He went on to work as an accountant for General Motors in Elyria, Ohio, from which he retired. He served two terms as the mayor of Wakeman, Ohio. He also worked as a security guard at Ehove.
Gary was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed reading, walking, cars (corvettes) working outside and making the yard look great. He enjoyed watching The Cleveland Indians, Browns and OSU football. He also enjoyed listening to old rock and roll music. Gary enjoyed making new friends and talking to his neighbors. He was always known to have a smile on his face and desserts stashed away in the cabinet.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Becky (Matt) Knittel, and Debra Harrell; granddaughters, Stephanie Rivera and Heather Harrell; five great-grandchildren; sister, Enid Wolfe; sister-in-law, Tina Swinehar; and brother-in-law, Darrel Wolfe; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Sue Swinehart, parents, Harry and Ernestine (Teenie) Swinehart; and brother James (Jim) Swinehart.
With the approach of Gary's birthday in June, a beautifully written birthday card was purchased. A card showing how important he was as a brother. It reads as follows: "I'm so thankful to have you for a brother. It seems every birthday gets a little more meaningful, a little more special in the heart. Maybe it's because each year, as we grow older, family ties become more and more important. . . So on your special day, it seems especially important that you know exactly how thankful I am to have you for my brother!" Happy birthday, Gary. How thankful I am that we shared "I love you" to each other in the days before April 9, 2021. Perhaps this is the lesson that we the survivors must learn from the untimely deaths of our loved ones.
